I tested my water today and got the following results...
Nitrate-40
Nitrite-0
GH-75
KH-300
PH- 8.2
I know that the Nitrite is good and the Ph is too high but what about the other numbers. If they are too high how can I safley lower them? I realy dont even know what KH and GH are.

How can I lower nitrate and Kh? I read that using peat in the filter will work, but where do you get it?

55 Gallon Tank with Cascade 200 and Penguin 170 w/biowheel. 20% water change at least once a week. And clean filter about once every 3-4 weeks

Peat won't do much for your KH. I'm curious as to how your tap water compairs to the tank water. What is the hardness of the tap water? You can lower your nitrates by doing more frequent water changes on the tank. Other than that, I would just try to keep the tank water as close to the source tap water as possible.
