Just looking around for opinions on what species make good, "sit and stay" type anemones? Not important if it's a clown host or not.

Looking for the kinds that don't get huge, isn't as stong as a Tomohawk missile, sits still....

Is anyone familiar with the flat-looking anemone that's commonly sold as a "Florida Rock Anemone"?

Thanks

Matt

most anenomes will get pretty large depending on the size. florida rock anenomes will not get as big as some others, but i have heard instances where they have eated live stock. as far as "put and stay", no anenome will do this if it is in a plave that it oesnt like. they will stay if they happen to like the exact spot where you put them. otherwise, they will go seeking for another spot.

the rock is a very hardy species I have heard of people who have had them out of water for an hour and they still lived. They will roam around when you first put them in and for the most part once they find their spot they will stay... I am currently researching the same question you are asking right now so keep posting

I couldn't have said it better.

Thanks all. I was aware that they all move until happy, but some deservedly have the reputation as "king of the road".

I've kept some east-coast native anemones that did not move whatsoever after the first day or two. But they were basically nuclear in their power. I will not put them in a tropical tank. I once saw a native molly try to "graze" on the anemone and it went into convulsions and spirals. Their sting was much stronger than a condy.

Why not get what anemone you like and if it gets too big by another tank :) or the cheaper option is you can frag it and sell it to an lfs for credit. :)

The tubes tend to stay pretty still and most of them just eat small particles out of the water column. They don't need really bright lights and have lots of color are pretty hardy etc. If not one of those the rocks are a good choice but, they need pretty good light etc.
