Good starter Cichlids?

Angels!?

I'd stir clear of angels unless you have another tank set up to put overly agressive individuals in. How about blue rams or bolivian rams? Nice, cool looking fish and very very gentle with others.
(My angel turned into a demon and ate my oto last night...)

okay..I think I'm gonna go with rams I think  but if for some reason I wanna keep like a tank with one angel how big would it have to be?

10g?

If it were just an angel probably just 10 gallons. I have seen some beautiful planted 10g tanks with an angel for an ornament! I wish mine was better behaved, she/he didn't used to be like this - but man, give them exactly what they like water wise and geesh do they become rude! I had to move her out of the community today, she's with one dwarf gourami now in a tank that is not nearly as nice as the one she left. Have fun!

DO NOT GET ONE OF THESE

The Scienachromis Fryeri can be "somewhat" aggresive in a community tank.

"Big Blue" has an established presence in one of my tanks. He's not been feeling well for the past several days. He's developed a cough of some kind. Otherwise, this picture would've been impossible with all the chasing and biting he does.

A 20g high would be the smallest tank redomended for an angel, and many breeders use them for established pairs. A 10g might seem fine (and is for the first 9 months maybe), but that's because many people have never seen a full grown angel. They get to be the size of a small dinner plate, and in a 10g would become stunted, and unable to swim without its dorsal or ventral fins hitting the substrate or the top of the water.

Rams will be good for your tank, but beware. They are the most delicate of the fish listed. Good locally bred fish are pretty hardy, but most lfs rams do fine for awhile, and then mysteriously die weeks or months after purchase (just my experience and those of others). Not all fo them mind you, but enough to be discouraging when your not used to losing new fish for no reason.

Whoever sold you that fish for a community tank should have thier tanks taken away from them and donated to needy hobbiests.
