Got 37 gallon Aqueon setup

Since the 55g is so long I always recommend using 2 filters, one on each end.

Sent from my SGS4 Active

Yep. For a 55g, twin Aquclear 70's, or a canister and an AC70. Lots of options.

Don't forget glass tops if you're not going with standard T8 hoods.. and a ~200w heater. Keep in mind, mail-order tends to be a lot cheaper for aquarium hardware than a LFS.

I have an Aqueon pro 150 heater already. Should that suffice? I live in MD and keep my house at about 69 to 70 degrees.

That's true guys, and a ~150w would be a safer bet in the event it stuck on. As long as you don't need to raise your water temp more than 10-15degF above ambient, smaller wattage is better IMO.

Kahuna, I just got an Aqueon pro 200w for my new 75g oscar tank. I like the fact it's all aluminum, love the red/green indicator lights and so far, what I dial in on the heater corresponds with the digital tank thermometer I have.

Exchanged the 37 for the 55g tank today. First impression is that it fits the space better and will be more flexible for me.

I upgraded some of the components too. Got:
- Aquaclear 70
- Two versatops
- 48" modular Aqueon LED light fixture with one extra day LED
- Black background
- Premium med sized brown/black natural colored gravel

I plan on keeping my current fish in the 10g and start fresh with this one. Should I do fishless cycle? Do I put plants in first after the cycle but before the fish?

Also, any advice about where to put the filter and heater? I have to cut out the plastic parts of the versatops, so I want to make sure I put them in the right place.

Regarding the filter, my friend argued that I should use a Aquaclear 110, not 70 for a 55g. The manager at the fish store said that would be too much if I want smaller fish and plants.

You can go ahead and put the plants in while you are cycling because plants eat on ammonia and stuff like that. So, it's up to you on when you want to put them in really.
