Got a few goldfish.

So I just went and bought 3 goldfish for my 35 gallon tank about a week ago. They are only about an inch long without the tail. I ended up gettin 2 fantails and 1 oranda I think. The one I think is an oranda is plain orange, looks like it will form a growth on its head and has a completely different body shape to the other 2. The other 2 look like a normal fantail shape just small I got 1 plain white one and a calico coloured one.

Now I just want to know how can you tell if goldfish have swimblader and how do you treat it? Just want to get a heads up on it so if it happens I can act fast.

Also what other diseases do I need to look out for?

If you want to prevent swimbladder, buy some quality food and soak it for 1-1.5 minutes before feeding it to them.

i recommend pro-gold, bloodworms, and krill fish food, which can be purchased at the goldfishconnection.com

its the BEST goldfish food.
 
bad news came home yesterday arvo to find the white one dead I don't know how it died it was just at the bottom of the tank all stiff and wasn't moving I think it might have had swim bladder. I thought the calico coloured one mite be dieing as well caz he sits on the bottom most of the time but I woke up dismorning and he seems to be doing ok. The oranda seems perfectly healthy swimming around.


Thanks for the help will start soaking the food before putting it in.

The best ones are foods that sink anyways, if you soak them you will lose some of the nutrition. The best one hands down is New Life Spectrum.

did you cycle the tank? it sounds like a cycling problem to me.

yer it was cycled I had some fish in it that I moved.

I think it might be the batch of fish that were at the pet store because the calico one is barely moving and it looks like the oranda might be starting to get it as well. When I bought them there were 2 half dead ones in the tank so I tried to pick the healthiest ones I could see.
