i was at my lfs today looking for some pond fish and saw a figure 8 puffer. i thought he was so cute so i bought it. i have it in a 10 gallon by himself right now and was wondering how many could i buy next week to put in with it. thanks in advance. i am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also I would start lookign up on the fish's dietary needs. Puffers ned cruncy foods and many will only eat live foods as young fish. Start with pond snails and ram's horn snails.

And keep testing the water for ammonia. Puffers do not do well in uncycled tanks.

They also need brackish water to fare well in the long run. If the LFS didn't keep them in brackish, slowly bring them up to low BW specific gravity around 1.005 to 1.008.

They're great fish, and I have one in a 10 gallon, too. Believe me, he/she will be fine alone and highly interactive with you!

I wouldn't risk it. Part of the problem here is bioload. Puffers are messy eaters, and they foul up the water eating yet they require very good water conditions to thrive.

And, with a brackish tank, water changes are no longer free (or nearly so) as you must add salt to the water. Not as much as a marine tank, but still potentially pricey!
