Hey everyone,

I just bought a 29g and a few accessories from a lady in town today for $50. She's had the tank outside for 2 years and I decided to bite the bullet and put it together tonight. The filter works good and so does the current thingie she also had with it. I might need to buy a new lid/top because it looks pretty bad, but its ok for now.

I'm thinking of getting a GT for it, but i also want a dither fish to go with it. I don't want a pleco because they're so common and get too big. Let me know what works with everyone else's set-ups.

Thanks! Alex

A 29g isnt a very good tank for a green terror. Its a good growout tank but you will have to move it when it hits about 6". They do grow rather slowly but my biggest female was almost 8" and I had a male that was around 10"
There are alot of smaller growing plecos that are becoming more available these days- Ancistrus(bushy nose) are good algae eaters
Ive never used dithers but I hear gaint dianos work well.

I agree, fine for initial grow out, but you will need a bigger tank. Unless it is in your short range plans, I would consider other stocking options.

try some smaller cichlids like rams or apistos

ok well i decided to just go with a green sevreum and just for now till my gf gets her tank next week an "original" oscar. Everything was running fine and great but I woke up this morning and the water was REALLLLLY cloudy. My circulater wasn't working like it should have been but i don't think thats why. There was a part of my filter missing when I put it together. Its missing the front white part that goes in front of the blue/black filter insert. I'm hoping it's just that because those are easy to find and hopefully thats the quick fix.

Do you have another tank that you did a media transfer with...?

It sounds like you just got the tank and now have a fish in it. I was wondering how you prepared the tank for the fish...cycling for the correct bacteria...?

oh, well the lady hadn't used it for 2 years so when I got it home I washed it out and got all the "crusty" stuff off it it to try to get it looking newer. I filled it up and let everything circulate/filter through it over night then I put the fish in it about noon yesterday. I haven't had any problems with "fish-in" cycles in the past so I figured it wouldn't be a problem. I called the Petco around here and the lady said that its just "new tank syndrome" and it would be fine in a few days.
