i was wondering if any of you had dwarf puffer....
thinking about getting one...
anybody has one of those?? how are they?

thanks

I have a puffer, he's not a dwarf though. I found my puffer to be one of the most entertainning fish! I don't recommend that you keep any other kind of fish with puffers though. I keep mine alone. He nearly ate my pleco's tail off in about 5 minutes. They also tend to bite through bags (so be really careful when you take him home). I like to feed him live food, so I keep my 10 gallon to breed snails and keep ghost shrimp. Shell food (like snails and shrimp..but snails are better) are essential for puffers to grind down their teeth...

I've got two dwarf puffers in a heavily planted 5 gallon eclipse tank. They are my favorites! They are so entertaining. They can be picky eaters. Mine prefer live snails. It was several months before they gave in and ate frozen bloodworms.

From experience, there are your nippers and your non-nippers. The nipping thing is up to the individual... it varies from fish to fish. I had a few in a 55 gallon that never nipped a thing yet I hear people talk about nippers all the time so there's no doubt they are out there. Some get these little guys and find that they are hard to feed, which is because they sometimes refuse to eat or don't realize they can eat something other than snails which may not be so readily available for everyone. If not readily available, frozen blood worms and brine shrimp worked well for me. Also, a lot of time, in the trade, you will find a lot of these little guys have bacterial infections which is another reason for their refusal to eat, a lot die soon after purchase. BUT all that said, they are a wonderful little fish with lots of personality and I would recommend if placing in anything smaller than a 55 gallon, make it a sopecies only tank, aside from maybe your algae eaters.

Well, The Nipping really all depends on what size tank it's kept in, My was in a 55 and there was never any nipping, But I had to move it to a 20, and WOW, It was a devil! so I would say anything under 40gal, Species tank

I really liked the one i had but deffinetly keep him in his own tank and also they are picky eaters mine only ate frozen blood worms.
