I just got my driftwood branch from BigAls, now do I need to boil it and then if I do or not, should I go ahead and put it in my tank I have now or wait and put it in the one I bought it for?

Thanks "AGAIN",

Gin

How does it look? good or bad?

Assuming it's not from the wild and already aquarium ready then you don't really need to boil it. You can just wash away the dust and soak it in water for a few days since some of them discolorate unless you don't mind your tank water becomes blackish. Does the one you got has a suction attached? If not you definitly need to soak it in water to get rid of any air inside. Otherwise you'll have a hard time to make it sink.

Hows it look: Well it looks like a skinny branch to me (LOL)

I assume it is tank ready, it came from Big Al's and is on a slate. Yes I think I will soak it, I spend to much time trying to keep my water clean.

And my java fern I am getting from the take a plant give a plant forum should be here soon to...WOW it's all coming together now, got my filter, driftwood, plants and substrate on the way, got some sand..I didn't think I was ever going to get it accomplished! Now I just need my other plants and and my lighting fixture. Oh hey can anyone remind me what size (lenth) the lights are for a 55?

Thanks,

Gin

Thanks guys!!

I got some from Big al's about 2 months ago, and I boiled it, and while boiling it there was Tannis released, and then I soaked it for 1 week in a 5 gal. bucket changing the water out every other day! and placed it in my tank and its been fine! If you don't boil it I would definatly soak it for about 2 weeks to ensure all the tannis is released! There was quite abit in mine!

Ok maybe I will boil it then I'd rather be safe than sorry, NOW to find a pan big enough to do this in!!

55's are generally 48"
so either a single 48 or 2- 24's

Maybe a WOK lol!

To be where you're at.. I've been planning my tank for so long and still don't have it yet. I think its in the works though, the weekend after next I'm going to go ahead and buy it. The thing is I'll have to wait to buy all the accessories for another couple weeks so it will be at least a month before I can start cycling...then another month before I start adding my plants and stuff...I think it will be forever before I get some fish.

I just recently got some dw from big als too. I'm not going to bother with boiling, but I have been soaking it and the waters been pretty brown. I thought boiling was mostly to kill any bad stuff on it, which shouldn't be an issue with store bought stuff, but that may not be the only reason for boiling

Believe me it has taken me a while to get here...2 different times I was so close to being able to get it and something would go wrong, so I just started ordering piece by piece when I caught it on sale.
See first I was just going to buy a kit (cheaper) but then after reading post's here I went against it so see everything DOES happen for a reason, if I would of bought that kit I would have a not so good heater, filter, and other things and then I wouldn't of had the money to upgrade so it was fate stepping in those times!

I am going to use the media out of my filter I am using now so i don't have to wait for the whole cycle thing, taking things out and using them in the new tank to start it out (ornements and such).
