Well after reading this forum for a few days I finally went and spent a few bucks today and got myself a nice 10 gallon tank at walmart. I got the tank, the top with neons, the filter, the heater, the thermometer, gravel, fiber plantsand some nice rocks for about $115 CAD.

I also ordered a fish tank divider from a local pet store because I want to transform this into a tank that will house 2 bettas, 1 on each side. I just love these fish, they're beautiful.

One thing though, I read here and elsewhere that you could mix a few kind of fishes with bettas but I asked the clerk at the local pet store (she didn't look too knowledgeable though) and she told me that no, you couldn't put bettas with anything, even snails wich I thought is a bit weird.

So I'd like advice from you guys and girls, what find of fish could I put with my bettas if there is any.?

And like I said I have a 10 gallon but I'll have a divider so each betta will have 5 gallons on each side, they'd have to be pretty small fishes.

Thanks!

First off, there are some fish taht you can put with betta's. I'm not an expert by any means, but I have snails and have had ghost shrimp with my betta and had no problems at all. My tank betta tank is considerably smaller than your is so that was all I was able to put with mine. As far as the fish that you put with the betta's, if you they are slow moving and not flashy they should be fine. There will be more expert opinions that can tell you exactly what type of fish you can use. I do hope this helps some.

My bro keeps 2 Dwarf Gouramis, 4 Platys and 4 Danios with his male betta no probs.

But it can depend alot on indivdual circumstances. The general rule with any fish is........ If it can fit a tankmate in its mouth, then it will :)

Hope that helps a little and welcome to the forums :)

Hmm I don't think I'm gonna risk it then, looks they won't have any partners 'cept maybe a pleco each? I've heard plecos can go with pretty much everything and I doubt a betta would pay attention to it since it's so slow and barely moves?

And thanks for the welcome, this board is just fascinating, I think I'm hooked already though :(

Quick warning about plecos.... They can get massive 18-20ins at least as adults. But by the time that happens you'll be so hooked on fish you'll probally have a 200g tank :)

no plecos with bettas. plecos will get very large and might think the bettas slime coat would be tasty. i have heard mixed reviews about adfs with bettas. some have no problems. others say they shred the bettas fins.
i keep an apple snail in each of some of my betta tanks. some of the bettas dont bother them, others try to (and do) eat their tentacles (or antennae-not sure what they are). it really depends on the betta. if your betta is very fiesty, it will probably snack on snails (that is what seems to be true with mine)
corys can be kept with bettas but they do like to be in groups. not sure how many you could put in a 10. personally i think bettas look stunning alone and need no tankmates:)

I had a problem getting my ADF food when it was in with my betta, as the betta stayed on top and ate when I fed, and the frog stayed on the bottom and got nothing! People said he'd eventually wisen up or I could bring the food down to him in a net, but I eventually just took him out. I worry too much when I don't watch them eat, and I couldn't have my pet-sitters put food in a net and try to entice the frog with it. :p Too much hassle! But the frog never did bother Vitara's (somewhat small) fins. :)
