I got my kribs today and they seem to be doing well so far. happy and getting along with their tankmates and colored up nicely. I am pretty sure I have a male and a female, but I was pretty sure last time too, I ended up having 2 males that really liked each other:laugh:

here they are:

Sorry about the poor picture quality. What do you think?

[edit] Also, what should I name them?[/edit]

Thanks. One of my friends named them Shannon and Ted, so naming is closed, but are there any other opinions on gender?

Im with Seaman That Has to be a male and Female. The First is definetly the Female. Does anyone know that if a female Krib has a spot on her tail that it is rarity?

FishNMusic, I don't think the spots mean much. some kribs have them, some don't, and it doesn't seem to mean much regarding gender. I was pertty sure they were a pair but wanted extra opinions. It wasn't so clear when they were in the pet store, but now that I got them home they colored up a LOT and it's more obvious.

Thanks for your help.

nice looking couple. i dont think the spot means anything either. my female has a spot and some of her offspring had it and some didnt. dont get too upset if their first couple of broods dont make it. the 3rd time was a charm for mine. i believe the first 2 were eaten by the parents. good luck.

OKay

Thanks for the info on the spot. I heard that it is a rareity for a female to have a spot on her tail. If the pair colored up at your and have designated a nest and have dug out a little area for their nest its more than likely that they are a pair. Just wondering how big is your tank and do you have any other tankmates wit the kribs?

My tank is a lightly planted 55g with lots of caves and their tankmates are:

5 cories,

some ghost shrimp, I put 6 in and found one dead, and I see one or two every now and then... now I know why they're called ghost shrimp :p

4 angels, about 1.5" around,

3 swordtails, and

4 small black phantom tetras.

I know there may be conflict between the angels and kribs, I asked about it in another thread, but I believe the general consensus was that they would work ok.

Kribs are very easy to pair... pretty much, if you stick a male and female together they will pair.

You definately have a male and female. The top one is the female, the bottom the male.

Males have daimond shaped tails and their ventral fish are pointed. They also get larger and are more elongated.

Females have round tails, paddle-shapped vetrals, and are rather more stout in appearance.

Both sexes should have pink bellies (males do when they are content, so I would say your male is doing well), female's bellies will usually be more intense though.
