Got some new Rainbows today....

Great! I have a bosemani and a couple of turquoise rainbows. Had a HUGE red one, but it died a while back after a nice long life and they red ones are hard to come by in my area. I recommend them to people wanting a peaceful fish with lots of good color. Quality water makes them even more brilliant.

Good find!

Wait a second, do you have the boes. and both turquoise in the 30 gallon, or do you have the turquoise in a different tank?

i don't have ANY fish in the 30gal right now...i was looking for ideas, and these are great looking fish, i'm mostly schooled on cichlid, but i was thinking in this smaller tank to do some freshwater fish and live plants...

Have the bose. only in the 29.

Are you in MI? If so, I think those are my fish. I traded them in last week-ish because of my impending move to ND.

I had them a couple years now - grew them out since they were 1.5" or so. I fed them mostly NLS and veggie flake with the occasional frozen bloodworms once a week or so. Enjoy them!

Yes, I am in in MI, and got them from Fantastic Fins in Livonia. It must have been painful for you to let them go. They are beautiful and fit it well with my other Rainbows. I would have bought more but I didn't have room with my current stock.

Can you give me more detail on what you were feeding them? I got back into the hobby again about 5 months ago, after about a 20 year break, and am not familiar with NLS or veggie flake. I am currently feeding flake, bloodworms, and frozen brine. They are taking everything, but I am always looking for new foods to put in the diet.

I used to go to the same store years ago when Bob and Jeff ran the place. Chris is doing a nice job, and they always seem to have an interesting selection of fish.

Awesome I have 7 Boesmani and 7 turquoise in my 75..they are still juvies but coloring up nicely! good purchase..i think i paid $5.99 per fish for mine and $2.99 for the turquoise

They look great in that tank! Very nice!

NLS = New Life Spectrum. I feed the cichlid forumla - only because I have cichlids, too. IT's all basically the same stuff. The veggie flake came in bulk from FF in a 1 lb. bag for like $10. THe brand they have is 100% vegetables, no fish meal. It's a much better food than standard "spirulina flake" that is mostly fish meal. The price is right, too.

You can get NLS on aquabid from a guy in Ohio (flydude1015?) prtty reasonably. It's expensive in the store but cheap(er) online. I usually get the 5 lb buckets for $50 or so, and they last 6 months for me with 6 tanks running. If I didn't have plecos it'd last much much longer.

NLS is great for color enhancement.

WIth those rainbows, they're used to 50-60% water changes every week - so go nuts. The only time I ever had problems with them was when I missed a water change for a week and a couple started swimming a litle weird (in circles). Getting back on track fixed it. But the best color in them comes right after a water change. They love it.k

Thanks for the reply.

I actually have some New Life Spectum. Maybe I need to give it more time, but usually when I feed it to them most of the pellets end up sinking to the bottom and I never seem them go after it. I'll go back to it for awhile and see if they respond, and I'll pick up some of the veggie flakes too.

I am running 2 Rena XP3's plus 2 penguin 660R powerheads with sponge filter, and doing 50% changes once a week. My Nitrates stay very low, and so far all my fish are thriving. Hopefully I can maintain their brilliant color!

Good luck!

They don't tend to eat off the bottom, so you have to feed little bits very slowly. They really love chasing a frozen block of bloodworms around - plus it's fun to watch!

You could put the boes in with the turquoise, rainbows of different species will school together and display to each other. This would be a better situation for him, especially if the new tank is larger than his current one.
