Considering its tradition not to return a sword to its sheath without it first tasting blood, either there are really just a bunch of samurai sword sheath owners, or they do a lot of killing. :thm:
I agree but I doubt that would happen. I hate to say it but that's the reason they are so easy to control now. The numers are very limited and accounted for.
According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2003, 17,013 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes - an average of one almost every half-hour. These deaths constituted approximately 40 percent of the 42,642 total traffic fatalities.
So we should be rewarding drunk drivers, because 60% of all traffic fatalities are caused by sober drivers.
I beg to disagree! Why would we reward the drunk drivers?? With the above stat, we'd potentially have 40% fewer fatal accidents if the drunk drivers weren't on the road to begin with. The stats with guns and gun owners are different.
To put it simply, in my opinion, a gun in the hands of a safe, responsible gun owner is about as dangerous as a baby spoon. A gun in the hands of a mentally ill person, or an unsupervised child, or a person who has no experience in how to safely handle and use a gun.... THAT is dangerous!
I think if the goverment set a price floor so the weapons remained nearly as expensive as they were today, any additional supply would still be bought and just as controlable as it is today. Its when the prices drop and any Joe Schmo can buy one without a second thought that the issues appear.

Or just keep the price of the tax stamp up there. It would be nice for the responsible owners to build and modify their own. That group already knows that the laws involving that aspect of the hobby are darn serious.
Registered owners of class 3 firearms (full auto) have never had a reported case of an accidental death. That makes them the safest group of gun owners there are!!
It isn't the registered owners that is the problem. The problem is the unregistered owners, and last time I checked they didn't consult any firearm laws when deciding firearm purchases or their use. They can enact all the laws they want and it will not change the fact that criminals can and will obtain whatever firearms they want. What will change is the average citizen's ability to arm and protect themselves.
