the whisper air pumps are really good. ive got one in my room and i can barely hear it, and thats only if i try.

I use a Whisper also. I can hear it, but its not too noticeable. Not bad for the price.

OPTIMAS are good, quiet,strong and reasonably priced

I use a Rena, but the rubber feet fell off, so now I wrap it in many layers of toilet paper and you can barely hear it. So I think any good airpump would be fine, and all you need to do is wrap something around it and it will stay quiet. I haven't had any overheating issues
