Gourami going pale!

Perhaps a broad spectrum drug like Maracyn might be the way to go. The treatment will take 5 days since it is an antibiotic.

Did you use the melafix long enough? And did you raise the tank temp to above 84F?

Why would I raise the temp above 84F?

Most meds want you to raise the temp. It helps speed up the life cycle of many parasites and if that is the problem then it could help get through this thing faster. Of course warmer water means less oxygen so make sure there is sufficient turbulation on the surface.

I agree sounds like finrot, and if your doing a lot of water changes it isn't going to help his health in my expieriences as the water changes can shock the fishes system. My Gourami's did ok for about 2 years then died due to ick. I just didn't want to go back to them, as the ones I got were picky eaters. I did think they were pretty though.
Sorry I went off topic, But I would put him in an isolation tank with the meds, and look up to see if it looks like finrot which is what I would think it is also, that or maybe another fungus,

Unless the meds you use say to not do a water change, then I suggest doing daily water changes. Fresh water is always a good thing for sick or injured fish. And the stress of water changes is far less than the stress of poor water quality.

Well he died. My friend thinks he had bloat. The hole in the fin did not get bigger. It also was in the middle of the fin and not the edges. The rest of the tank mates are danios and they certainly are tough fish. Thanks all.

Wow, sorry to hear about the poor guy. I hope all the danios are going to be fine. My gourami went through popeye and no one else in the tank got it so maybe they aren't the hardiest of fish. Still very pretty though.
