Gourami lovers?

I've just got 2 Pearl Gourami's in my 'new' 55g, a nice 2" male and female. Always wanted them and am suprised as they have a fair bit of individual character.

Rosita, I've found that the dwarf gourami's tend to be a lot more fragile than their larger cousins. Give a couple of pearl's a go.

man i love the chocolate gourami, theyre so hard to keep tho...
ive had no luck with them.. its too hard for me to keep the low ph taht they like.

Have you tried not keeping the PH low? Stable water is prefered over instable water wich is sometimes the right PH.

I have always loved the look of gouramis and have only ever kept dwarf and kissing gouramis. I used to love my kissing gourami. He grew quite large and i had him for 7 years.
My question is this. I have recently got back into fish keeping and have set up a new 4 foot tank. How many pairs of gouramis could i safetly keep that would allow a mix of other community fish too? Also which species would you recommend to start with?
Thanks

well the chocolate gourami ive dealt with was wild caught so i tried using peat moss to keep the ph as close as their home.
i know stable water is good thats why i stopped raising chocos, couldnt keep the ph to be stable.

Gourami's

Had one powder blue gourami-so gracefull, watching him was almost like swimming in the tank.
Now I have an opaline gourami, changes colours right in front of you almost.
My next tank (55 gallon) will have at least 10 gourami's in it. They are great fish

I refuse to believe an opaline gourami at any size can be suported by a 1g tank. You are being cruel to the fish by keeping it in that small a tank.

I hope that 55g is coming really soon, for your fishes sake.

i have a male red honey dwarf gourami. eventually when i get a bigger tank i'm going to get a couple females for him.
