Not sure if this will lead to any useful info, but does it seem that there are a lot of issues with Gourami lately?

Has there been a nationwide sale on them? Or hasn't the word spread well that these are not a throw'em in the tank and forget'em fish? (not that any are IMO).

What can be done to better this issue?

Danios kinda are throw em in and forget about em....lol....In fact if you wanted them to died, they'd go for 10 more years...

There are no "throw them in and forget them" fish.

-That's the first problem.
-Gouramis are colorful and a good size, this makes them attractive to buyers.
-Gouramis are know to have problems with parasites and most people do not treat them or quarantine them long enough to see the signs.
-Gouramis can be aggressive with other fish, so it's 1 or 6+ to minimize and aggression.
-People in general are idiots and do not do the research necessary before buying fish!

I just...sheesh people way to generalize. People in general are not idiots, ever heard the phrase "Takes one to know one,". Welcome to the world of inexperience. People make mistakes, if everyone did everything correct the first time, then this forum wouldn't be here. Just grow up.

I don't necessarily agree with the choice of words, but I do agree with the sentiment.

If people would put 1/2 the effort into researching the fish that they buy, as they would when buying a car for example, then questions like this wouldn't come up.

Personally I wouldn't have a problem calling someone an idiot that bought a car based soley on the fact that it was big and red.

I have many gouramis, and they are my favorite kind of fish.

I love them. And Just because someone's fish gets sick and they need a little help doesn't mean their idiots and don't know anything about their fish...

What's this the AquariaWhining forum? Geez Bud just vented some cynicism...In general, I find most people to be idiots on average....hehe

Only relative to your superior intellect big guy ;)

and back to the point, I don't think that the 'idiots' comment was made toward gourami keepers alone, I'd take offence if it were becasue I have some too, but towards people in general who buy fish without knowing what they're getting, or if they are able to provide the correct environment for this wildlife to live full and happy lives.

i have an opaline that is about 5.5", a gold that is about 3, a dwarf kisser that is about 2 and a dwarf flame that is also about 2 in the same tank and have not one problem with any of them. the opaline is just a beautiful fish when he moves around that tank, the gold kinda stays around the bottom and the other 2 just stay on the sides and dont bother anyone.

i have a red honey gourami and he's perfect. never been sick, he did get one of his feelers bitten off by one of the blue tetras. i do regular mantenance on the tank and keep the water healthy, but i don't have to give the gourami any special attention.
