Gourami: swollen and lethargic

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried those "Tank Buddies" made by jungle for dropsy or internal parasites? I was at the LFS yesterday and saw that they had the two different kinds and was wondering if they are worth spending the money for?

The one called Parasite Clear has Praziquantel as the main ingredient. This is an excellent drug for getting rid of external parasites like gill flukes, anchor worms, etc. This particular tablet also has metronidazole in it, which is an excellent drug for internal parasites. Problem there is that it is usually most effective when taken internally. So, while the package claims it can clear internal and external parasites, be advised that metro soaked food is likely a much better cure for internal bugs. Oh, I think they say it can kill Ich too, which it may be able to, but does on the treatment instructions I'd be wary since it doesn;t treat long enough to kill it all.

Aqua gloom - swollen gourami

Getting very disheartened with all the death I've witnessed in our aquarium since getting it.

First an attack of Ich wiped almost half the tank out - thanks to Davedka's excellent article, am treating with salt successfully - and all white spots are now gone.

Latest development is one gourami died a couple of days ago - extremely swollen and miserable. Now another is in the same way, showing stringy white poo and looking very fed up. What can I do? I live in UK so not quite sure which meds to get? Is this internal parasite infectious?

Please advise

Thanks very much

Ralph

Ralph, start your own thread and you'll get more feedback that way :) !! Be sure to include your tank size and inhabitants as well as your water test results (ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate at least). This will give us somewhere to start!
