Gouramis not entirely happy.

I would skip the pearl gouramis. The tank is already at its basic capacity with the stock you have.

Gouramis, and other labyrinth fish are often shy at first. Plus I would think they aren't a fan of the danios.

Lots of plants is key for gouramis.

Keep it natural.

They don't seem to mind the danios. They only hide when we are in the room, otherwise they swim freely in the tank. I've been hanging out quietly by the tank around feeding times and they'll now come out and watch me at other times as well but I'm not allowed to move. It's been a week and time is definitely our friend. I'm going to add more plants, I'm looking for some nice tall ones that will float to give some surface cover as well.

These fish will learn to love me darn it!

I wouldn't add any ADFs to your tank. Usually people don't put them in anything more than a 30g, for safety (and visibility) issues. I've found the ones I've had to be incredibly stupid, and 4 of the 6 I had in my 30g drowned, even after repeatedly netting them to the surface and on top of floating plants and logs.

The fact that they're kinda dumb is the main attraction. I like my men and my pets to be cute and stupid :grinyes: but I'm not interested in drowned frogs. Looks like we may need to add a 2nd tank down the road for the frogs. This is how it starts, isn't it? One 20 gallon tank morphs into a 40 gallon tank and now I need that 20 after all!
