I was looking at Gouramis and I've never had them before and was wondering if some of those species could live in 10g with my 2 guppies and 1 betta?
Any experience on this one?? Some feedback would be great. :bowing: Thanks!

Gouramis and bettas are both labarynth fish (they breath atomspheric air), so they compete for the same area in the tank. Think of the gourami as a betta, once they meet you'll have a fight on your hands.

The guppies will do fine with the gourami but your betta may not do well with them. Long, colorful fins tend to get attacked by bettas.

Purple, thanks for your info!

Bump, anything more? I would like to hear some more feedback. One is not enough for me
:D

i have 4 dwarf gouramis and a betta. i tried sticking one of the gouramis in the bettas tank but they instantly didnt get along. Bettas and guppys may work, at my LFS they have a betta in with about 15 other colorful guppy's and no problems. I have a feeder guppy with my betta witch has a little less color (not as big of a tail, but it is black, orange, and turquoise) and they have no problems.

okay, thanks. I guess i won't get any Gouramis after all.
Thanks, thats all I wanted to check.

its Ok, all fishes can live peacefully in your tank, but sometime Bettas and gouramis will fight for there place in the tank as bettas like hiding places. :)

I cannot speak for all gouramis, but my experiments with adding a betta to a 40 gallon tank with 2 opaline gouramis did not go so great either time. When the gouramis are little, the betta chased. When the gourami grew larger, the tables turned when the betta was reintroduced. Now they all live seperately and, for the most part, happily. If this was to ever actually work, it would take either exceptionally mellow fish all around, or a huge tank (very much larger than mine at least).

do you have the guppys and betta together now? For how long?
