Grandparents are finally seeing the light and letting me redo their tank.

Looks very nice! Although I'd stick with all pink bulbs or all daylight bulbs. I like the pink myself, but the two colors together...ehh.

Is that Cyanobacteria on that lift tube? It may be what is smothering the Crypt. The fish look really active and happy :)

Still need to get bulbs, went to petsmartcosupermarket and didn't know what bulbs it needed. I didn't see any cyano. There's this red algae the looks like coraline algae, obviously it's not, but it grows in disks and only comes off with a razor blade.

You can save a lot of money by going to Lowe's or similar hardware store rather than a pet store.

If your grandma likes the pink bulbs, GE Aqua Rays has that kind of color rendering:

The full spectrum bulbs will grow plants the best and look the most natural, the ones I use are GE "Sunshine" bulbs....look like this:

If it's a 55 with the 2 hood fixture, then it will take two 18" bulbs, just like a 10 gallon tank does.

Oh wow, what I thought was a lift tube with Cyano was actually the heater...what gave it away was the suction cup ;) Sorry, but I've never seen a heater like that before!

Ballyhoo, that tank has great potential to become an amazing tank. i think you can pull it off too. Subscribed and waiting for this tank to be amazing. Also willing to help if it's needed :)

I spy some serpae tetras and neon tetras, what's the total stock?

15 serpae tetras, 2 platys and the pleco. The LFS that's taking the plec isn't open until Tuesday.

looks great what does granny got to say about it ?

She likes it so far :) wants to know when it's going to clear up. I told her it'd be a day or two

A suggestion for the lights, get a 48" long T8 shoplight. Put one pink bulb in it, and one daylight bulb. That way both lights go all the way across the tank and blend together, so you get the best of both worlds. You can usually get the shoplight for $10-$20 depending on where you get it at, and the bulbs are about $5 for a two-pack, though now that I think of it, I've never seen a 48" pink T8 bulb...It would work great if you could find one though!
