Has any one done a Turtle grass only tank?
I am thinking on converting my 55 brackish tank into a SW but curious on turning it into a Grass only tank with a few live rocks in there.
I would like to place in there, Turtle, shoal and manatee grasses. I think this might be really neat with Sea horses and Pipe fish.
But like plant tanks, would I need to do anything to the substrate or just use regular sand?

You may want to get in touch with Tom Barr (plantbrain). He has a great marine planted tank--algaes, mostly, though I think he used some true aquatic marine plants as well. Sorry, cant offer any other help! Keep us updated though--it sounds like a cool tank!

Another thought--ReefCentral has a Marine Plants/Algae Forum--might be a good place to start.

If you try it, I'd love to see how it works. One of my fantasy plans is to plumb a seagrass tank and a reef together.

There is some lore about turtle grass requiring iron (try searching "turtle grass" on reefs.org, e.g.), but I have no idea whether that's true.
