I've seen a gravel vacum at my LFS that you are supposed to put one end into a bucket and the other suctions the gravel. How does this work? How does it not suck up all the water? Or does it? Thanks!
It depends on how it was designed. Some should be positioned diagonally and then move like you should be pushing and pulling. The up-and-down process that is. Hard to explain this one.lol Some have aspirators so it's simply squeezing until the water gets sucked. Battery operated ones are also available but more expensive.

It does suck out the water, just use it during your water changes, by the time you'll be done with your quick gravel clean up it'll suck out 15-25% of the water depending on your tank size and the diameter of the gravel vac.
