Just a question from a realtive newbie as well.

When cleaning the gravel, is it best to leave the artifical plants, decorations in place or remove then and clean the gravel and then place all them back in.

Also if I remove them, whats the best way to clean them, we are talking plastic type plant arrangements and aquarium decorations.

I have a 46 gallon tank and all is well, just want to make sure it stays that way when cleaning.

When I had plastic plants, I used to leave them in place when cleaning the tank. However, I used to take them out and clean them in a mild bleach solution about every six months....followed by a thorough rinsing, of course ;)

I guess it is one's preference. I have plastic plants. Some times I work around the plants, other times when I am more lively I will take up the plants and clean. :)
