Gravid spot!!??

Vinci,

She doesn't look like she's ready to give birth for a while. I'd take her out. Remember, when she is getting near, she will look about ready to explode, and as far as I can tell, the best 48 hour indicator is when the round fat belly begins to start looking "square-ish". Might need a better picture though. Its tough to focus through the net. She won't be happy living in there for more than a couple days. Also, the light colored fish have a more visible dark spot, since their skin is nearly transparent. My green guppies look perpetually pregnant (and they probably are)

Feeding: My community gets fed once a day. A healthy dose of staple flake food. Then freezedried bloodworms every couple days as a treat. If there is a pregnant mama, or fry, I'll double the feeding per day. This keeps the babies healthy and the other fish from developing a hunger for them. Currently, I have 5 fry swimming around. They are super tiny, but the other fish are leaving them in peace.

Oh ok, I guess I 'll release them :). Thanks and i 'll post back, once the fries arrive.

The arrival!

:hi: YAY! :hi:

I woke up to find 15 fries in the net.I guess its her first batch. I witnessed tazmin eat 2 of her fries, so I put her out of the net. Outside the net I saw her giving live birth to 3 more fries.(which I transfered into the net). : :bday:

:dance2::dance2:

I can still see the gravid spot on her. Its much lighter though . Does that mean she is going to release the second batch soon? . I am feeding the fries with powdered flakes which i Prepared in an old and small grinder. Only 3-4 fries ate them, the rest of them are just swimming in the bottom of the net. Is that ok?

Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread. I will post some pics of the fries soon.

:D: :D:
P.S: sorry, if I seem 'over-exited.'. Its my first attempt at breeding...
:p:

Thats cool, I guess she was ready! lol

By the way "fry" is plural. "fries" are things McDonalds sells.

Grind that food down to the finest powder possible...should be fine.

She can produce babies for a couple days. I had to stop protecting the fry eventually. My 20g is becoming overstocked with all the babies.

:(

Something terrible happened... A female molly kept fighting with TAzmin.By fighting I mean chasing around and pecking her all over the body, pushing her. I had read somewhere that 'molly-fights' are not serious. So i just left them to play around.
The next morning Tazmin looked really sick. One of her fins were missing(the top
one), she was sitting on the gravel and didn't even bother to eat food. I think
she's dying...

Can I save her?

P.S: All her fry are doing fine. All 16 of them are alive and healthy. :o

Females are vulnerable and weakened after giving birth. Often, you have to separate them from the community until they get their strength back. Maybe put her in a private net for a while.

Yeah, I 've place in a separate tub. But looks like It's alomost dead! It float in a slant position and
I think it developing ick. I 've added medicine. Is there any thing else I can do?
I also witnessed some thing strange, It dropped down some white ball like structures and after a day or so the gravid spot almost dissapeared.Does that mean anything?

Sometimes there's nothing you can do. I've had two swordtails die soon after giving birth. ...but you should see all the surviving babies! As Steve Irwin might say... "its just nature's way." Make sure the water stays warm and keep her water fresh.

Did you remove any carbon before medicating?

She died! Anyway, think'in in an optimistic way, i have 16 babies ....
How do u remove "carbon " before medication?

The carbon is what you put in your filter. The "black rocks" as my kids call it. So sorry to hear about your mama fish dying. BUt now you have some pretty little babies. Good Luck!! :hang:
