Took a trip to my basement today in search of a saw to cut a piece of wood to put under my aquarium.
While I was there, i found 2 kinds of Great Stuff Foam and a full tube of GE Silicone II w/ a caulking gun!!
This is great, because I am planning on making a DIY bkg. What a find, right? How weird. My uncle must have left the stuff behind when he moved out.
I have a few questions about each of the products:
DOW Great Stuff Insulating Foam Sealant (Window & Door):
- Is this the right stuff to make a DIY background?
on the front it says: "Airtight bong, saves energy. Remains soft and flexible. Permits expansion & contraction. Better than fiberglass."
DOW Great Stuff Insulating Foam Sealant (Gaps and Cracks):
- Could this stuff be used too?
on the front it says: "Airtight and waterproof. Bonds to most materials. Cures rigid and trims easily. Sandable and paintable. For interior and exterior use"
GE Silicone II (Window & Door):
-I know people say this stuff is safe, even though on the back it says "Not for aquariums," but I was reading up on GE I and people said to only get the all-blue bottle(without the gold at the top((mildew/mold resistant.))) This one has gold at the top, but it's also not GE I, it's GE II. it doesnt say anything about mold/mildew resistant on the bottle.
