I have green unidentified algae in my tank. there is some on the glass that i clean regularly. It has sort of a "carpet look to it" when i clean it off it doesn't come straight off it looks kind of foamy its soft and the one on my swords looks hair like.

I never did quite understand how i need to properly balance nutrients in my tank.

Here is what i have

20gal with diy co2
my lighting is 1 65w 50/50 bulb.

What do you recommend to properly cure the algae.
and Two. how can i properly balance out the nutrients in my tank.

I currently only dose Flourish Excel and Nitrogen.

I looked here: http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/algae.htm

to try to get the correct one but a few of them sound like it so just seeking some help so i can properly treat it

hmm so basically pick **** out, make sure i have a clean filter and do water changes.

You need to find the source of the algae problem so you can get rid of this problem permantely. How long are the lights on for during the day or evening? What kind of lights are you running on this tank?

1 65 Watt 9-10 Hrs/day (10000°K daylight and 460 nanometer actinic)

This is in a 20gal.

Any ideas?

DIY co2
Dose:
Flourish Excel
Flourish Nitrogen
1X2 weeks.

O.K. so 65 watts of light over a 20 gallon tank means you have 3.25 watts of light. Are you running co2 injection? Anything over 2.5 watts of light usually means you will need co2 or you will be over run with algae. Are you using any ferts in the tank?

Your tank needs micro and macro ferts. This usually means more then Florish. I am not that savy about them. Have you tried posting this in the plant section of this forum? I am certain there are folks there that can help you out better than I can.

i'll try posting there. i never did understand how to properly balance nutrients, and i think thats my biggest problem.

I got rid of my green algee by turning off my lights during the day and I only have them on after I get home from work until I go to bed. But... I don't have plants. The the other thing I heard was to cover the tank for a week with newspaper, but again I don't know how that will effect your plants.
