I have a 55 Gal Tank That I keep getting a green algae bloom in!!! There is no direct sunlight on the tank!!! I also use R.O Water!! The only fish I have in there are 8 Jack Dempsys. Any Idea on a fix for my tank?

It's an imbalance: too much nutrient, too few planktonic grazers eating those single-cell algae and euglenoids..

Reduce the nutrients: P:some of the extra flake feed is passing right through your fish: cut down amounts.
N: ammonia is being generated by the breakdown of organics in your filter (canister eh?): clean it more often.

Planktonic grazers: get a founder population of rotifers, copepods etc. from a friend with a clear heavily planted aquarium. Get a couple of gallons of mulm off the gravel and add the "dirt" to your tank.

You could also get a Vortex XL and use it. It will clear it out, but you need to 'fix' that prob too. The Vortex is an accessory type filter. I use it after water changes. It will make your water crystal clear..

lol, here we go again with the Vortex XL:D

Where would I be able to purchase a Vortex XL . I looked for it on a cuple of sites and had no luck?

I would recomend getting the Vortex Freedom Filter, alittle more expensive but it has some new stuff to it, a new valve, and it can run longer without clogging.

www.Bigalsonline.com is a great website for fish supplies.

Excellent product! I learned about it here on Aquaria Central. This Link should take you to PetSmart.com where I bought my Vortex XL. :)

Joe, was it you that posted the drastic before and after pics of green water in your tank? That is what sold me on getting a diatom filter. If it was you, they should give you a commission!
Could you repost those pics?
