So now I've upgraded my 16 gallon (10 tall bowfront) from 15 watt to 28 watt lights. Looks much better and I think the live plants are happier (anubias, wysteria, red crypt.) I've got a tall piece of wood in the middle of the tank where the top is obviously closest to the lighting. From the beginning, I noticed some darkening of the wood at the top (diatoms?) and now little green growths in between the spaces on top near the light, almost like miniplants. I have 2 Otos in there and thought they'd get rid of all the algae since they eat that stuff up. But this stuff is growing - is it indeed algae as I suspect? Do I need to do something about this? I plan to add a CO2 inject tomorrow for the plants and heard that might do something with regard to the algae. Any advice on these growths? The water might be looking a little color and not the usual crystal clear these days although I can't tell. At this point I don't want to add any additives in the water (e.g. Algae away, etc.) until I hear suggestions and see how this materializes.
