Green Hair Alagae on Driftwood

Hey all. I got some driftwood from a friends tank and it is covered in hair algea. What is a good way to get the stuff off. I thought maybe boiling it in water would do it, but nope. Would some bleach help? I don't want to add the driftwood till I've removed it and scrubbing really isn't an option. Any thoughts on sterilizing driftwood?

Just cause I figured it would be tough to get it out of all the nooks and crannies, but I guess I could do that.
 
Doesn't hurt to try :)

Use a brush with long bristles to get into the nooks and stuff. You won't get it *all* off, but a little algae, imo, looks good and gives the wood a nice "aged" look.

I've got a piece of driftwood with the same problem. I tried the scrubbing thing, but it grew "hair" quickly. So I just yesterday put it into a tub of bleach water. The algea turned white right away. I've left it in all night and will change out the water today. I hope it works!
