Green Mandarinfish

PM Jojo - he has a connection online where if I remember correctly the prices are about as reasonable as they get..

While we are on the subject of copepods I have a few questions about them. Will they survive in a in tank refugium? What would you need to put in the refugium? Once you have a refugium full of them how would you actualy feed them to a mandarin? Would you let a few out and hope for the best? Would you stick the mandarin the refugium for a few minutes?

The mandrin would have to graze in the fuge for most if not all of time unless you could catch the pods for it. They eat a lot almost all of the time. You would be better off if you raised pods outside of your main tank and captured large numbers of them a few times a week and feed them to the tank the mandrin was in. Use as a solid surface for them and feed them spirulina, nori, and some sort of marine vitamin.

Thanks for the advice, but i have a few followups. By solid surface do you mean that I should use them to keep the mandarin full while I try and get the mandarin on other foods? I have heard several weird ways to raise pods outside the tank, what would the best way be?

Sorry, I though I had said but, I hadn't use egg crate in a tupperware container lots of surface area and easy to get out of your way to catch them. I don't know if your mandrin will EVER eat other foods most of them won't . However with the proper pod breeding operation you shouldn't have to worry about that. I'd run two plastic tubs full of them ,"split a culture that should do the trick" and you'll have more than enough . You other fish will enjoy them as well they are pretty much the perfect food for lots of s..w critters if you raise them correctly.

Once again thanks a lot. So do you just put some number of pods in the tank and the mandarin will get to them? Also what sort of aeration/filtration would you need for these tupaware colonies?

Hey, thanls t everyone for their much appreacited feedback on this fish. So far I haven't seen that many copepod in my tank, so I guess I'll have to buy a colony and start breeding them before I acquire the fish. Any more suggestions?
p.s. at the store they told me it feeds on detritus as well.
