If I buy one juvenile Green Severum in a 39 Gallon Long tank will it survive with 6 albino Cory Cats. I really want a Green Severum but I also believe Cory Cats are the best cleaners in the world. In fact this is all I am going to have in my tank, please let me know if you guys think this is OK.

I have read many forums stating that Green Severums can be a peacful cichlid. Since I am buying him as a baby I figure he can live peacfully with 6 Cory Cats.

Yes they will be fine together. Theres not to many fish that will bother a cory because they have spines and exoskelotons. My concern would be that a 39 long may not be enough room for a full grown severum which reaches leangths of 10" and sometimes more. A 55 gallon is ussually considered the minimum for a fish of this size.

I know I wrote up another thread in another place and gave me the same advice. I just had the thought of getting 1 BIG FISH and a bunch of cleaners in the bottom as a good idea.

I think I will just do this instead:

6 Cory Cats (not sure which one yet, will accept advice)
2 Bolivian Rams
1 blue paradise gourami
1 Angel Fish

Here is my second idea:
6 Cory Cats
1 Blue Discus
2 Bolivian Rams

Can I tell you I think larger catfish and plecos are absolutely DISGUSTING but I think Cory Cats are sooooo cool and I am addicted to them? I know it sounds weird but it is true.

Same here.
Plecos in particular just freak me out, i cant stand the way they look, cory's however are one of my favourite fish.

I had a pair of Green Severums in a 40G long (4') tank. I was planning up upgrading at the time, but had an unfortunate winter power outage that claimed the lives of half the tank. I think I had them maybe 6-9 months and they grew significantly in that time range, getting them around 2" and they were close to 6" I am guessing (it was a couple years ago). They are really neat fish.

Some pleco's are quite stunning but I agree the common ones are ugly. There is some other fish you could keep in that tank as well like a fire mouth, a pair of convict's, A pair of rainbow cichlid's, A blue acarra, and many other medium sized cichlid's that would do fine.

Some firemouths can be quite mean.

I used to have a cichlid community tank and the firemouth used to enjoy chasing my synodontis multipunctatus. Although it never did it any harm.

I kept a pair of severums that I bought together, for around 3 years. They eventually grew up to around 8 inches within the second year, and were probably some of the most pet like fish I have ever kept. The severums never bothered the catfish or plecs that were in the tank, and they would gang together if another species of cichlid was after one of them.

I also liked the way they recognized people. For instance the Green Severums were Light green with a yellowish hue in the main body when I was looking at the tank, but if a stranger came in the room, they would turn really dark green and the black stripe would darken and thicken along the fins, and they would face the stranger head on. If the person lef the room, a minute or so later their light green colour would return. When they got used to recognizing that person, they wouldn't change colour!

Anyways, I would say that Green Severums are probably some of the most rewarding fish to keep.

6 Cory Cats
1 Blue Discus
2 Bolivian Rams

I would strongly recommend not keeping a discus singly. They really need to be kept in groups of 4+ to feel comfortable. My 4 discus live in a 55, which IMO is pushing it, but they needed a home and they were given to me.

This is a great idea. These fish should get along just fine- the angel and rams won't pay any attention to each other, and most paradise fish are pretty laid back so you shouldn't have problems there either.
As for corys, I vote for corydoras sterbai if you can find them. I love the pattern that they have, and I think the orange fins are beautiful.
