i've always givin my severum a combination of flake food/pellets/and frozen bloodworms, reading some tonight many articles stated they love to eat plant life and i can vouch for that, could never keep any of my live pants with him alive...

so question is if i washed of some like romaine lettuce would that be good for him throwing little bits in as well? or would possible pesticides kill him?

I fed my pleco some lettuce and it did fine. You could try to find some organic lettuce maybe.:cool2::bowing::hang:;):shark::thm::coffee2:

well i have always read that severums are carnavoirs. i feed mine a varitey of wardley flake food, freeze dried krill and bloodworms, and floating cichlid pellets. he has grown from 2 inches to about 5 inches in the last 7 months, and is coloring up just beatifully. so i am not sure about the lettece bc i know that if a fish is not used to getting veggie matter in the wild then it could screw with the digestive sys. but i would do some more research on that maybe try Cichlid-Forum.com's profile on severums to see what they say. they are a very reliable source. i would be very interested in what others think about this too.

I have a green severum that loves zuchinni, squash, turnip leaves, lettuce, and any other vegetable I put in the tank. I put a slice of zuchinni in a bowl of hot water and microwave for about 15-20 seconds to soften it up. Then I run it under cold water for a little bit to cool it off and put it on my veggie clip and put it in the tank. My severum and parrots love it. They also like blanched peas with the shell removed and french style green beans from the can (salt-free).

I took a fresh spinach leaf and washed it good, blanched it in hot water and put in the tank and I couldn't believe it!! My severum never left the leaf until it was gone. Same way with the zuchinni.

I put a veggie in the tank at least twice a week and have done that since I have bought him. I also feed them frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, krill, and Omega One Cichlid flakes.

edit: My angelfish, guppies, snails, cories, pleco all love fresh veggies too!
