What kind of lights do you have? Lighting can have a dramatic effect on the colour and health of corals since they are photosythetically symbiotic.

lighting definatly wiould do it. and although they do not require a lot of light, they sure do look better under it. Your new lights will definatly make a difference. jsut make sure to acclimate everything to the halides so it doesnt all get burned and die
and GSP does not feed on phyto. They just spread out more because of the smell in the water.
as far as them spreading, they do spread very very quickly if given high light and a lot of flow.
