Hi,
I have a 37 gl. w/ a 3" Gr. Terror and a 11/2" Jack Dempsey. Recently, the GT has been chasing around the JD a little too much probably because of the size difference now.
I also have 3 little Tin Foil Barbs swimming around w/ no problems at all. Should I introduce another cichlid to calm the GT down or move him on to new digs? My plan was to raise up 4 small South American cichlids and then move them all to a 75 gl. later on. Any advice fr a new game plan would be appreciated:help:

another cichlids not going to make anything better, especially if he isn't going after the t-barbs. Try to get some better hiding places and every time you see aggression re-arrange the tank so they can't claim territories.

you should look into moving them to that bigger tank ASAP

the tank is small but for those two fish it should be fine for now. Upgrade in a couple months. like I said.. Add some decor and re-arrange it every time a problem arises. It doesn't sound like to bad of a situation yet, it if gets worse then separate them.

Thanks. I plan to make the move soon...I was just hoping for a couple of months time! But I know the writing is on the wall.

The tank is too small NOW, from a terriotrial issue, that's why the Op is having problems. You can redecorate all you want, but it won't eliminate the issue of not enogh space for each of them to claim, even at this small size.

I started my JD and GT in the same tank but it was a 60 Gallon with tons of places to hide. You are definately going to need a bigger tank.

i agree

you should start by getting rid of the tinfoils. they grow really big really fast and will help free up some space for the cichlids. still, you should upgrade to a 100+ gallon tank ASAP. 75 wont be enough for a JD, GT, and then two more cichlids.

Even in a 150 gallon tank big cichlids are going to chase each other and fight over territories, especially if one is larger and more dominant. As the other poster said, the fish are fine in that tank until you can afford something bigger. They're cichlids. They aren't made to be peaceful.
