I have a pair of gt that breed about once a month. the first time I sucked out about 15 of them (still have them ) 2nd time i sucked out alot more and put them in the tank with the first 15 ..they ate them .. that aside my question is what role does the mother play after they hatch other than protection ? OR can i just remove the surface she laid the eggs on and let them hatch alone ??

I don't own a GT, but plan on getting one soon. I have been doing some research and I believe GT's are excellent parents. The Gt's should take care of the eggs and the fry. I think you can just leave them alone in the tank and remove before they get too big. Does anyone else agree or disagree?

agreed they can stay with the parent for a while meybe to like inch or two! have fun with that!

My adventures with my breeding pair of GT's are well documented on this site! Basically, unless you have other fish in your tank, you don't need to do ANYTHING with the fry until they reach about 2 inches. Those 'loving parents' will then turn into something entirely different and see the fry as competition. When my pair have fry, which is about EVERY **** MONTH, I have no intention of raising them so I just let nature take it's course with the other fish in the tank. Be sure to feed them fry food and get ready to do some SERIOUS water changes about twice a week. Good luck with your babies!

well before this batch after about 2 days of free swimming they would disapear ..I just assumed mom was eating them

with this bach i have a new leporonus in the tank and he seems to be snacking on them
