Im thinking about getting a Greent Terror for my 55 Gallon. The tank has sand and a rock wall in the middle. He will be in with a 4 inch female convict that nearly killed my 2 inch JD. How old do you think he needs to be so he wont get picked on? Also if its a problem I can move 4 Firemouths in the tank with him and take out the convict. Which way do you think is better? Thanks for your help.

Which tank do you have the firemouths in?

I would put the firemouths and the GT in the 55 and get another convict and put them in the firemouth's current tank so they can breed and you'll have free food for the residents of the 55.

What size is the GT going to be? Is he also 4 inches? If so, he will be more than capable of holding his own against the convict. You may have to take the CONVICT out to save HER from being harrassed.

Here's a link to a photo of my male GT

I just plan on getting a GT from my LFS... about 2 inches. So he would get along with the Firemouths?

The GT would probably bully the firemouth after a while.

My Gt was very agressive as a juv. He hogged all the food. The GT grew bigger and faster then the rest of the juvs in the tank. I think I had Depseys and convict juvs in with him. After about a year he slowed his growth and agressive nature down. Now the GT just chases the fish in the tank every so often. He doesn't seem to much care about them. I would guess a GT would bullie your firemouth around as juvs. Nothing is certain in, with my experience with fish natures can very quite a bit.

I had one Firemouth and the one I had was the whimpyest fish I think I have ever owned. I wonder if most Firemouth are this boring?

My experience is totally flipped I have a firemouth with two cons he chases them out of his territory which is half of my 55 gallon all day you would think it should be the other way around he even tries to steal their food out of their mouth and when he cant he gets mad. On the other hand my gt whos tank mates include jag, jd, serevum is the least agressive he gets chased sometimes and hides at feeding time sometimes only getting leftovers. He was the biggest of the four and has been outgrown sense then now he is the smallest. So really it is hit or miss try what you like if it dont work out try something else. my 2cents.
