Ok, I have a 1800 gal outdoor pond. I have had it with green water. Looking at putting a UV sterilizer in. I want to know what you have and your recommendations for a UV sterilizer. What would you suggest i buy?

Wow, great responses. I did add a 39 watt uv light to my pond and within a week my pond was clear as glass. If anyone is interested.

Sorry - I am new to ponds - mine isn't even finished. I know nothing about UV sterilizers, but good to know that you had good luck with that one, in the event that I need to look into it. :) Right now all I have is brown water. LOL

Which one did you end up getting??

unless you have koi or big goldfish, you should be able to cut down on the green water by adding some floating plants. they will both shade the algae in the bulk of the water and compete for the nutrients.

If you have a good bio-filter, large enough for the size of your pond and the fish in it, you should never need a u.v. sterilizer or barley straw or any chemicals. I've got a great diagram if anyone is interested.

I guess I should also mention that we used to breed Koi and had thousands in each pond and we didn't use plants, just a nice blanket of algae along the sides of the pond. The filter did all the work and kept the water clear and the fish healthy.
