green water plz help

ok ive had a 45 g long tank set up for about 1/2 a year now.
for about the first month ive had really clear water. after the first month i put in some ph 7 powder stuf.
the water began to get very very green. after a week or so i was barely able to see like 20" through the water. i put a bag of green X in my eheim 2213 and didnt turn the light on and did like 50% water changes evey day for like 4 days. the water went almost clear and then i put the light back on.
after a day or 2 the green water came back. i was wondering if ne one can help me get rid of this because my water has been green for over 3 months and im getting really mad.
plz help me:(
 
I recently fought a battle with GW. The only thing that worked for me is a bottle of Acruel F. and a diatom filter. I tried diatom scrubs without the chemical but it always came back. After adding Acruel F at three times the reccomended dosage the algae started to ball up and the filters just grabbed. With the diatom filter the tank was clear in about an hour. I had to replace the powder in the filter twice but it worked like a charm.
I tried a five day Blackout to no avail , several 90% water changes that would clear it for a day or to but it always came back. I also tried adding water from my other established plant tanks .I was on the verge of buying a uv sterlizer when I bought the magic drops.
I attribute the oubreak of green water to over fertilizing and to lng of a light period. I also just changed out my filter with new media and figured the plants could shoulder the load of nitrifying bacteria.

It's the PH "powder stuff" that will cause the algae outbreaks! The PH "stabilizes" have Phosphates wich can promote algae blooms..
 
I had a nightmare out break tryed every thing listed above.You might have phoshpates in your tapwater.The only thing that cleared it up was leaving the tank alone (watched my water tests)and put off water changes long enough for the alge consume the phos.
Now My boss hands me a pinch of powder in a bag and I add the powder wait ten minutes till tank go's from red to brown add like a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide BAM the tanks clear again all the funk is sitting on the bottom to siphon out.
What it is ? how it works? but it does
 
If you change the water a lot the water tends to stay the same peramiters as the tap if you are drawing un clorinated water and your amonia nitrites and nitrates are all low in the tank no prob.
I,ve done 90% changes to all of my over 50 tanks I've had.And never had any major losses or even that much stress.
Some fish come from rivers or river basen lakes and a big rain or lack of can change there water conditions dramaticaly in hours.
What I was getting at was if your nitrates are at 80 ppm a 90% water change would most likely stress your fish:(
If those nitrates are 15ppm the change might not bug them as much.

The dark powder is potassium permanganate (KMnO4), a powerful oxidizer. It begins as a magenta color, but as organics are oxidized it goes to rose to amber to brown. Hydrogen peroxide stops the action.

Effective --but hard on fishes if you overdose.

Potassium permanganate can be found among water softening supplies at your Agway or Home Depot.
