Green Water

I went throught the filters and overhauled them all... took them out to the sink and gave them all the good rinse, changed all media that wasn't biological, and put some extra quilt batting in to help polish the water. Also left the lights off for a day and skipped feeding for a day. Seems to be working now. We will see when i get home tonight

this plan only worked for a couple of days, the water is green again. I have no idea here.

daily excel might be too much,, unless you are heavy heavy planted... i think you are good on light have ton of lumens... 6500k? right... sounds like an algea bloom... get some more plants in there.... or go with uv if you want...

more plants would help? is that due to the additional plants helping to use up the nutrients in the tank?

i also have yet to hook up my pressurized co2 setup would setting that up help my issue?

UV Sterilizer is still the only utility that I know that will kill suspended algae. I ran an Aquarium Products 9 Watt Tubotwist sterlizer on my 125. Sold it when I sold the aquarium. Nice little piece of kit, actually. Easy to take apart and clean.

i could use some green water right now to feed my daphnia. if you can get some daphnia into that tank it will help clean up the green water for you too.

well i stopped dosing the excel for a couple of days and the water is back to pristine condition. Clearer than the springs of Fiji. Thanks all for your advice but now a new question arises.

with the new pressurized co2 setup in place. Should i wait to start dosing the co2 into the water until i have more plants or just keep the bubble count really low??

Just do a black out for a few days no LIGHT cover the hole tank make sure 0 light gets in there do a 50% water change the first day give it 2 days do another 50% and in 1 or 2 more days your water will be clear. Good luck
