green water

Shekoi

Trying to start up again
since the weather has warmed up other the last couple weeks my pond have gone very green, can only see the fish when they are feeding at the surface.
i'm slightly over stocked due to last couple of breeding seasons which have doubled my goldfish numbers.

What can i do to try and combat the green water, i did a large water change and bottom clean earlier this month.

the pond is 8'x 4'x 4'

it get sun duing afternoon and early evening

Add lots of plants in the pond or in a bog filter. UV sterilizers are supposed to be effective against greenwater also but I have never used them on a pond before. I always go the natural route and let the plants get going although it does take awhile sometimes depending on the situation.

i have a lilly and pond weed that i've just cut down when i did the water change.

would it work if i had a filter box type of thing with pants in and slow flowing water into it then back into pond? i don't really wan to add any more plants into pond, because of taking up room.

what plants would work the best then?

Thanks for the ideas.

Yeah, a bog filter like that should work good. Water hyacinth would work and perhaps something growing emerse also like Cyperus sp. Cannot give any size recommendations-the bigger the better obviously but also depends a lot on things such as waste amounts(stocking and feeding) in the pond. Anything would help though. I have seen some folks do this with the 3-section preformed water falls also.
