I have the same problem right now...I have tried blackouts, Algea Fix and the AquaClear Bonding chemical.
MY RECOMMENDATION - DO NOT USE THE ALGEA FIX AND BONDING CHEMICAL TOGETHER. IT ALMOST KILLED MY FISH...
I bought a Diatom Filter and it hasn't ever worked right...I am sending it back for a replacement this weekend. I am going to give on more shot...But not impressed so far! It leaks and blows bubbles. They told be that sometimes the motor will not seat right and this happens.
I also have the Powerheads with filter and it worked ok but never cleared completely.
My water is perfect...7.2ph, 0 Nitrate, 0 Nitrite, 0 Ammonia and but Phospates are high (Of course with an Algea bloom).
My last resort is going to be to try a UV Sterilizer...Several of the forum members have recommended the TurboTwist.
However, if you have medicated with CopperFix or similar...Do not install a UV Sterilizer. It breaks down the copper and turns it into poison.
I am waiting to install the UV Sterilizeruntil my water test for 0 Copper.
yeah the more i think about it i think i might just skip the next step <diatom> and go for a uv cause ive heard some stuff about how the diatom wont pull out all of the algae and the uv will kill it and the filter will filter it out
I second yo loach's opinion, It sounds to me like you have some wood in there that is releasing some tanins. Doesn't have to be wood, it could be any type of decaying organic matter that contains tanins in it ie. leafs etc..
Uhm no its not wood or any outher type of tanins its not brown its green......theirs nothing in the water thats releasing any toxins and i never anywhere said their was wood in the tank :hang:
man i was at my lfs looking at uv's and they wanted 159 bucks for the coralife twister ...the 3x for up to 125 gallons......and i got home and checked big alls they want 77 bucks for it....and like 8 to ship it ....thats like 80 bucks markup....and you know big als is getting aprofit....thats insane
