growing out brine shrimp

Does anyone have any experience growing out baby brine shrimp? Wilkerson, in "Clownfishes" talks about it and I want to give it a try.

How much food do you put in and how often? How do you find the balance between overfeeding (ruining the water) and starving them so they don't grow?

Back when I thought it was easier to raise them than to buy them, I used a yeast culture to feed them. A drop or two--just enough to cloud the water--every other day was sufficient for my tank.

However, in the long run, I decided there were lots more fun things to do with tanks, and I quit raising brine. Instead, I bought them live and kept them in a 5-gal with a bubbler. Much easier. Fed them with invert frozen foods (a splash every other day or three keeps them alive and nutritious).

Could you explain the yeast culture?

How do you make it and where do you keep it?

Just take a bit of baking or brewer's yeast, and activate it in wamr water with sugar. It will foam/bubble, and this is then dropped into the tank. You only need a little tiny bit--I would just push my finger into the dry yeast, and use what stuck. More than that is just a waste, unless you feel like keeping the yeast activated by refridgerating it and feeding it (if you've heard of friendship yeast/bread, same thing--if not, run a search and I'm sure you can find several recipes with instructions on maintaining a culture).

I raise brine shrimp because I can't buy adult ones around here. It is a pita though, to get decent yields.
