Growing Riccia

I am hoping to get some ideas from people about how they train or plant their riccia. Today I got a nice portion of riccia and for now it is in a temporary tub until I can get out to a store tomorrow and find hairnets or something to help me anchor it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
 
personally, i think riccia is a PAIN IN THE ***!
i saw some very nice pics of what some people have done with it. i think it was amazing what i've seen. but its not for me. its like duckweed, but worse. it floats and it sticks to everything. if you are one of the special people that can get it to work for you, more power to you. but you've been warned.
 
hm.. my brother went to an arts and craft store and bought some knitting mesh. its kinda like a plastic grid and i sandiwched some riccia between two and used cable ties to put them together. after a while it starts to shade itself and dies at the end and floats everywhere so trim everyone once an a while. i also tied a rock to one and other time i put some suction cups
 
i found a metal mesh. it was doing ok, but not great. it would eventually work its way out and start to grow on the surface and getting stuck in the filter, other plants, and side of my tank. i hate riccia... it's evil
 
Just grow HM baby tears. Less messy and picky.
 
I don't think it is supposed to root and it will float if not held down. Not alot a great things said about it but I have it now and I am not throwing it away. I will be getting something today to hold it to rocks I think. Also I am going to buy some Florish Excel because I think it needs some fertilizer.
 
i was talking about the baby tears rooting.
lol like you said about not throwing it away, i just put it in another tank.
it floats if not held down but it grows out of whatever is holding it down.

i wish you luck with it. i've seen some really nice tanks with riccia. i just cant do it
 
I had some that was growing great in some netting that I took from an AquaClear filter for the bio cubes and placed it over a nice rock. It was growing beautifully. But as it started to grow it came out of the netting and floated to the top bit-by-bit. I stuffed the pieces back into the netting but--it would happen again and again. I eventually just let the riccia clump together in a corner and those that didn't want to clump--I just placed over there and ended up with a clump the size of a 3x5 card. It is growing very nicely at the top of my aquarium now and looks very nice. I was going to try placing it back down into the tank--but I have changed my mind--I like it as a floating plant.
 
I read that when you put it in netting and tie it to a rock you have to trim it all the time or pieces will break off and float to the surface. Sounds like that is what happened to you.
