growth of iridescent sharks

I have one rescued from a 15 gallon goldfish tank and he was about 3" at that point. It is now 4 months later and he's over 8". Growing obnoxiously fast.

are irridecent sharks the same as Bala sharks? common names get so confusing sometimes.

they like to jump too... and many meet their maker by slamming into the glass at the end of the tank... i really wish these fish werent so popular with fish stores. an eight foot tank is really MINIMUM.

My iridescant shark is about 18 months old and is about 6 inches long, he exploded in growth after about a year and since has not growth noticably since, although I'm sure he will again. He eats decently, but just has not had the growth others have experienced.

My son came home with 2 irredesent sharks (and quite a few others) after going to the LFS with my mom to pick out fish the sales person told them that they would be fine in a 30/g tank, along with 2 bala, a rainbow shark, 2 columbians and a couple others mind you so NEVER believe the LFS unless you've been there and or no their reputation. The irredesents quickly became one of my fav's but when the columbians started looking strange (like they were shedding their skin) thats when I found this forum and that is when I found out how big my fish would end up and I was grossly overstocked. My columbians died of coarse (being BW) and I was able to find a home for the irredesent with a friend until they are big enough to go to someone elses pond. We do still have the bala but they seem to be doing fine for the time being. Don't worry everyone I know I need a bigger tank and one is coming soon.

Glad you found the forum! Welcome. That's unfortunate you ended up with so many fish in one day. Some lfs people aren't trustworthy at all. Never heard of sharks living in a pond, but I suppose it could be done given the correct perameters and equipment. See you around the forum.~Angela
