i got a blackmoor and a calico fantail a few months ago and i have a question about their growth. my calico has tripled in size and seem bigger everyday, while my moor has hardly grown at all. he has filled out a lot, and his fins look way better than when i got him but he has only put on maybe 1cm in length.
so i'm wondering if black moors are just slow growers or something? or should i investigate more into why he is not getting big quickly like the other one? he is eating well and seems to enjoy playing with the other goldy.

they are in a 55g, btw

as far as i know all fish grow at different rates, i bought 2 1" baby orandas a while back, 3-4 weeks apart, the larger of the 2 now was the smaller when they were both added to the big tank. they have had all the same food/water quality etc. i guess its just like us people, not all kids grow at the same rates :) its all down to genetics i think.

Sex and genetics play major roles in growth rates of goldfish. I've noticed that the females I've had generally have grown faster and been more voracious feeders.

Genetically in many species heterosis is key. I don't know many geneticist that are that interested in trying to determine the effect of heterosis on a tetraploid goldfish though. The math gets ugly really fast.

thanks guys.
