guppies and bettas

On of my bettas has been in my 10 gallon tank with my 2 male guppies for about 4 days now.....every so often Nito (my betta) will go after the guppies...they are too fast for him and he just leaves them alone..

BAD IDEA - Drop it
Mixing Betta and anyother fish is not good for either of them.
That's not true at all. Bettas mix well in many communities so long as the fish are not other anabantids or apt to be mistaken for another betta. This would normally include guppies, goldfish, angelfish... anything "finny". Bettas get a bad reputation that is not truly earned. Also, individual bettas may vary. You may find some able to mix with guppies well. You may find a male and female that could pair together long term. Those are obviously exceptions to the tule, but bettas, as a rule, can mix well with many tetras, cories, certain livebearers etc.

yeah I just wanted to let you know that this morning I took my bettas out....he seems to be getting nastier or something ? he just isnt going after my guppies...he's going after my tetras too.....so I decided to take him out....now I have 2 bettas that like to be completely alone......

No

No the beta will kill the guppies in minutes. The best fish i have found that the beta gets along with is the neon tetra. That should work.

They hardly get along with any fish.

The question I have is what kind of Guppies do you have? Do you have Fancy or just common guppies? I always kept my bettas with guppies and never had a problem. Sure he would go up to one of the fish and kinda bully them for a few seconds but never out right attack them. I think it may be the tank itself as in no cover. If you have plenty of plants and plenty of room your fish should be fine. Give your fish plenty of room and they should be happy together.

Harlock is right, you can keep bettas with other fish, but then again all bettas have their own temperment about them so its a risk that you have to take, you never can tell with a betta, but it is possible to keep them with other fish contrary to the bad reputation the betta has recieved.

Pretty Tetras

I have a question about "pretty tetras" .....my friend has 2 of them....and in her tank they are getting these white spots all over them that look something like bubbles......and what looks like flakes falling off of the fish.....what do you think could be causing all of this to happen to them ???? :sad
