I have 2 male guppies that I would like to put into my 29 gallon tank with 1 blue gourami, 2 platys, and 2 mollies. Would that be alright or would the gourami nip at the guppies? Carrie, my gourami, usually never picks on any fish in my tank but I want to be sure! I will use the 6 gal. tank that the guppies are in as a quarrantine tank.

Then...how many more fish do you think that I can have in the tank? I don't want to overcrowd! :help:

I would introduce the guppies carefully, and monitor the fishes over the next couple of weeks. I suspect you won't have any problems in terms of the gourami getting along with the guppies. If the gourami has already demonstrated peaceful behaviours towards the other livebearers, then you should probably be alright. The gourami is probably the alpha fish in the tank and he probably doesn't perceive the other smaller fishes as a threat to his dominance. Blue gouramis can be overly aggressive sometimes, especially with other gouramis, but you seem to have a pretty well behaved one.

As for adding more fishes, you are still understocked, even with the added guppies. I would add a small school of 4 or 5 corydoras and some otos as a clean up crew. That should take you pretty close to the limits of your stocking levels. Let us know how things go.

I have 2 male guppies in my tank with a pearl gourami and they are cool together. :thm:
