guppies behaving badly

any idea if this is normal

at any one time at least two of my guppies are chasing each other like crazy.
sometimes as many as six are twisting round each other and chasing like crazy fish round the tank.

a couple of guppies have nipped tails and i dont think it is the betta that is the problem he is so far totally oblivious to the rest of the fish.

and they are all male supposedly.

surely there could not be a female disguised as a male and that is the problem

any ideas

guppies can be extremely...agressive towards eachother quite often. several times visting my LFS i've seen the male guppy tank with quite a few dead ones at the bottom. There's always guppies picking at the corpse, picking at eachother, swarming all over other ones, ect. This also happened in my first tank (of course there were females in there). Im not sure exactly how to stop them from fighting, perhaps put in some more hiding spots?

Boys will be boys--even with no girls around. It's typically not as bad in an all-male tank, but that's just the way guppies are--they rip up each others tails in an effort to promote their own good looks, should any females show up. Keep in mind--behavior is driven by nature, and in nature, a female will show up eventually. Being ready is key to winning!

ok thanks i guess i will leave them to it then

and not be overly concerned do i need to be concerned about their damaged fins i have melafix should i add some or not unless it looks as if there is a problem happening

JMO, but keeping the water conditions up will be better than any medication. Frequent water changes, and good foods wil encourage better healing than a medication. If you see signs of infection, removing that fish and treating it in a another tank will be your best bet.
