Guppies dropping like flies -_-

I agree with the last part wholeheartedly

It's very easy to jump off topic with many different opinions and ideas

But on a positive note...NO CASUALTY TODAY!

First day for about a week I haven't had a casualty

Feeding is normal

I did notice one thing that was a little strange

The big female that i assumed died of old age had some red markings on her left gill

I couldn't see it when I originally posted the first time...because her right gill was towards the front pane of glass

I posted then took her out of the tank and flushed her (sadly)

The red markings almost looked like blood...or bleeding
but it wasn't actually bleeding per say
It looked like it was bleeding...but i think it was under her skin

which would also explain why she gasping the night before...

The red markings almost seemed like colmunaris...but it was literally right on the under side of her gill and didn't extend past the gill towards the mouth

do gill flukes cause bleeding? or can they cause bleeding?

I will continue to lay off the spinach and keep feeding them the veggie pellets until this situation is under control

At the moment I have 3 tanks to setup so I need advice as to what to setup etc

I have a 10g
A 20g long
and a 55g (which is for my clowns very soon)

Of course i'm going to have to clean them very well before using them because they were my buddies old tanks...and they came absolutely filthy

Should I turn the 10g into a QT tank? Substrate or no?

I have a heater and a filter for it...and I do have substrate but I'm thinking it's better to set it up without substrate...just to eliminate another possible cause for symtoms etc (plus as far I've ever seen most people recommend to make QT without substrate)

I've been constantly busy for the last 2 weeks setting up this 55g and supporting it properly

But I'm going to hold off on that and setup this 10g as fast as humanly possible tonight

Just gonna wait for input as to what you think I should do for setup / relocating my stock etc (how much should I move? What should I treat with etc)

Edit: I don't use salt in either of my tanks at all...I was told not to use Aquarium Salt in my tanks

Thank you again for your help
You are extremely knowledgable and have been more than helpful so far

Sincerely,
Taylor

2nd day in a row with no casualty!

All the fish in there are very healthy and very active again...no one looks lethargic

the one with the clamped tail seems better now...he's harrassing his twin again (which is normal for him lol)

That 10g tank is absolutely filthy...I'm gonna need some CLR or something to get this calcium buildup off the back pane of glass...can't even see the backdrop at all lol

I'm gonna give it another go tonight...any suggestions what I can use to clean up the buildup on the back glass? it's very tough and isn't coming off with the tough side of the sponge

Would vinegar do the trick? baking soda and water?

Thanks as always,
Taylor

Ok I'm home from work now

No casualties...but the twin with the clamped tail now has some very red markings on his caudal fin...it's like right at the end of his caudal fin...almost as if something bit it right off

the markings are as red as blood (but it's not bleeding)

He's acting strange also...he's back at the top of the corner in the tank just sitting near the surface almost swimming in place...doesn't seem very interested in anything going on around him

Unfortunately I don't think i'll have the 10g setup tonight so he might be the next casualty

I'm doing a big WC tonight on both my CL tank and my guppy tank (i'll be careful to clean the siphon very well before doing the CL tank to avoid contamination)

I will also put a new carbon filter in...and I'm at a loss as to what to treat this with...I think it's honestly just something in the water

Maybe there is an excessive amount of junk under one of the ornaments...i will be very thorough with the siphon needless to say

Any ideas / suggestions?

I just thought I'd throw in an update
Actually just found another thread regarding the same situation I was having

I went and did a nice big gravel vac in the guppy tank (after a good 30 minutes of moving snails from point A to point B)

And the left side of the tank was absolutely polluted with mulm...to the point that it actually smelled like...poo

Since that vigorous vac I haven't had any more casualties and all the fish seem healthy as can be

I appreciate all your help / input throughout this incident and in conclusion...I can only attribute it to dirty water

Sincerely,
Taylor

Good to hear tank has settled down..

Although your theory is possible, I found that when the H2S2 levels reached threshold for some fish, they just went overnight since as fish died off, they themselves have contributed to further deterioration of water.

FYI, A DIY contraption using Reptile Heating Pad with thermostat or expensive German Heating Cables, I was able eliminate possibility of H2S2 production in the tank even without vacuuming.
